In the last match of the season “Khazar Lankaran” encountered “Inter” within the final clash of Azerbaijan Cup. After 120 minutes of game and penalty series our team won and got the cup to Lankaran.

 

Mircea Rednic chose for the final the tactic scheme, which was used in a few last matches. Again Opara-Parks duet was put in the forward line, Pit and Wobay were situated on the flanks. Diego Souza and Rahid Amirguliyev were in centre. 4-4-2 scheme could be easily transformed to 4-3-3, if Wobay would go ahead.

 

From first minutes both teams started with mutual attacks. Though there was no shot at target, both sides tried to come closer to opponent box. “Inter” was more effective by centre, while “Khazar Lankaran” put pressure on flanks. In contrast with the last match in the league this time our game really was successful from the start whistle. Variety of passes gave additional priority to our team, and could keep this priority till the break. Movements from flanks to centre and from one flank to another were too effective.

 

“Khazar Lankaran” got a few good moments in the first half. Firstly, Pit`s shot from 12-14 metres after free-kick cross was deflected by defence. Then Musat crossed from left but defenders didn’t let Parks shot properly. Another ball was delivered by Pit from left, but Parks couldn’t reach the ball, though was too close to net it.

 

One of the best players in the first half was Diego Souza. Brazilian made a huge job in both parts of the pitch. He effectively correlated with attacking side and also helped defenders much.

 

After break “Khazar Lankaran” immediately went ahead. Firstly Wobay made an attempt, but the ball again met defenders on its way. Then Parks scored, but linesman flag had been already up and Winston got a yellow card.

 

A few minutes later “Inter” was close to score an opener. The ball was lost in the centre and Poskush got it before himself. His shot without a pause, went little bit wide as result of deflection by defence. Our reply to this attack didn’t come immediately, but came well. Parks passed from opponent defender on the right and got inside the area. He decided to give a pass intead of shooting, but no one was found to score a ball into the empty net.

 

On 73th minute Mircea Rednik made his first substitution. Diego was replaced with Hristu Chiacu. If usually we see Chiacu replacing Opara, this time manager decided to keep both striker in action and to bring additional force to attack. After this Pit moved to centre and Chiacu to left.

 

With 15 minutes remaining till the end of the second half another episode happened in “Inter”`s penalty area. Wobay’s shot from inside of the box looked to most people like a goal, but the ball actually touched the net from the side.

 

“Inter” attacks chiefly consisted of long passes to Poskus. Here big pressure was put on the centre of our defence. Scharlatache, as usual, played the main role here. Manuel’s right and well-timed decisions gave him control over the situation.

 

Before the final whistle Opara, Parks and Chiacu made by one shot for each other, but none of them could score. Poskus went one-to-one a few times again, but Kamran kept it under control. So, second half also finished without a goal, and as three years ago teams needed extra-time to find out the name of winner.

 

As extra-time started “Khazar Lankaran” without a delay went to attack. Rahid Amirguliyev made an excellent pace by centre and passed the ball to Parks, who was in front. After receiving it, Winston accurately, as he usually does it, dribbled through defenders and sent the ball into the net. Winston scored his fourth goal in the Cup this season and put “Khazar Lankaran” ahead. There were about thirty minutes to go.

 

After conceding “Inter” added second striker Karlsons to the game. Excitement was increasing. Chervenka was not marked after free-kick cross, but couldn’t reach the ball. Next dangerous attack towards our goal finished with equalizer. Karlsons smashed the ball inside after delivery from right – 1:1. Everything started from the beginning.

 

Near to the end of the first extra-half another substitution was made – Wobay was substituted by Catalin Doman. Catalin took place on his native left side, while Chiacu continue on the right. In the second extra-half it was obvious that both teams were tired, however the tempo of the game didn’t extremely reduced.

 

Last attack of our team was made by left, and most passed was going towards the Parks. Two wimes Doman occurred in a good position, but both times his speed was over than needed. A few minutes before the final whistle the last substitution was made – Emeka Opara gave his place to Elnur Abdullayev. So, extra-time also finished with the equal score and the name of trophy holder would be known after penalty kicks.

 

First attempt from the spot was made by Muresan and it was a correct shot. Then Karlsons shot and also scored. Elnur Abdullayev, who was the second choice, slipped and his shot went too wide. The second shot by “Inter” was made by Chervenka, and this one also didn’t went to goal. So, the score was equal again. Then Pit and Chiacu also shot and scored each other. And the third shot by opponents was deflected by Kamran. So, one correct shot was needed to bring the Cup back to Lankaran. This responsibility was up to young Niculae Musat – and he managed with this.

 

Thus, “Khazar Lankaran” became the Azerbaijan Cup holder in 2010/2011 season and lifte this trophy third time in the club history.
